Structured Support, Lasting Change
Our members work collaboratively with their change team to set observable and measurable goals, address personal challenges or barriers, and access resources that support their efforts to make lasting life changes.
CrossRoads is a Washoe County Human Services Agency (HSA) funded and lead initiative that serves Washoe County residents who are struggling with a range of personal life challenges through a peer-lead, alcohol and drug-free structured housing program with integrated wrap-around supportive services. HSA CrossRoads teams with RISE to offer unique campuses that serve Men, Women, Women with Children, and Families.

We utilize the Community as Method (CAM) model, which is based on the belief that lasting change happens through shared responsibility, mutual accountability, and daily participation in a structured community. In this model, peers play an active role in supporting one another, modeling pro-social behavior, offering feedback, and reinforcing community norms. The community provides real-time opportunities to practice communication, responsibility, problem-solving, and repair.
Rather than change happening only in one-on-one meetings or clinical settings, CAM integrates learning into everyday life. Participants are expected to contribute to the wellbeing of the community while also receiving support, guidance, and structure from staff and peers. This creates a culture of accountability, belonging, and growth that supports sustainable personal change.
Key elements of the Community as Method model include:
Peer leadership and mutual support
Clear structure, roles, and community expectations
Shared accountability and responsibility
Learning and behavior change through daily interactions
Staff as guides and facilitators, not just service providers
