How We Support Our Residents

  • Structured, Supportive, and Supervised Living Community: Our peer-lead living community offers a safe and supportive setting that focuses on skill development, personal responsibility, mutual aid, community engagement, and prosocial behavior. Living in our CrossRoads Community teaches cooperation, patience, and respect for others. Each CrossRoads community member contributes to health and wellbeing of their peers, while also developing the skills and capacity to give back to the greater community.

Intensive & Targeted Case Management: Program participants work collaboratively with their change team to set observable and measurable goals, address personal challenges or barriers, and access resources that support their efforts to make lasting life changes.

Life Skills Development and Workforce Reasiness Services & Programming: Through the delivery of evidence-based and evidence informed curricula, CrossRoads provides a range of wrap-around services and behavior change programming.

Healthcare and Community Connections: Program participants are proactively linked with physical and behavioral healthcare providers and community services to support their overall well-being.

Off-Campus Support (CROC) Continuing Care & Support: Our CROC services offer case management and community resource support for individuals outside our structured and supportive living community programs. Additionally, CrossRoads provides a full range of continuing care and alumni support and services for those who have transitioned out of our CrossRoads living communities and back into the larger community.

Multiple Pathways to Independence: CrossRoads supports a range of approaches to making personal life changes. Our teams believe deeply in resourcing staff with lived experience to help guide and support program participants as they build foundational recovery skills and networks needed to live the life they wish to live.

Grounded in Accountability and Responsibility: At CrossRoads, accountability means walking beside one another through both struggles and successes. When mistakes happen, we lean into our community of peers to find repair, understanding, and growth. Together, we practice recovery transparency and responsibility in a way that strengthens trust, deepens connection, and makes lasting change possible.

  • We utilize the Community as Method (CAM) model, which is based on the belief that lasting change happens through shared responsibility, mutual accountability, and daily participation in a structured community. In this model, peers play an active role in supporting one another, modeling pro-social behavior, offering feedback, and reinforcing community norms. The community provides real-time opportunities to practice communication, responsibility, problem-solving, and repair.

Rather than change happening only in one-on-one meetings or clinical settings, CAM integrates learning into everyday life. Participants are expected to contribute to the wellbeing of the community while also receiving support, guidance, and structure from staff and peers. This creates a culture of accountability, belonging, and growth that supports sustainable personal change.

Key elements of the Community as Method model include:

    • Peer leadership and mutual support

    • Clear structure, roles, and community expectations

    • Shared accountability and responsibility

    • Learning and behavior change through daily interactions

    • Staff as guides and facilitators, not just service providers

  • Our work is grounded in accountability, respect, and belief in people’s capacity to change. We value peer leadership, shared responsibility, and community as powerful tools for growth. At CrossRoads, we walk alongside one another through both challenges and successes, using structure, honesty, and mutual support to create lasting change.

    Equine Therapy

This program pairs hands-on work, like grooming and barn care, with therapeutic interaction to help members build connection and self-awareness. By observing how horses mirror their body language and demeanor, members gain meaningful insight into how they show up and relate to others.

We Got U Reno & Lil’ Red Truck

CrossRoads Men’s members volunteer regularly with both We Got U and Lil’ Red Truck, organizations that provide furniture, housewares, electronics, and much more to families and individuals entering housing after experiencing homelessness.

  • Children's toys placed under a decorated Christmas tree, including a toy car, a house-shaped toy, and storage containers with gold bows, with wrapped presents and a candle in the background.

    Toys for Tots

Each winter, our men give back by volunteering with Toys for Tots, helping sort, organize, and distribute gifts to local families and children. It’s a meaningful opportunity to practice service, build community connections, and be part of bringing joy to children during the holidays.
