Forging Alliances

Connecting Academic & Community Activism

April 28th, 2018 ~ 9am-5pm ~ Leonard Reading Room, MIKC at UNR

This day-long event will bring community activists and academics together to cultivate dialogue and foster action around issues that affect Northern Nevada. In the morning, attendees will hear from panels that offer academic and activist perspectives on issues such as prison reform, immigration, and housing. In the afternoon, attendees will be invited to participate in collaborative working groups with panelists to build relationships and develop plans for action.

The event starts @ 9am with light breakfast, coffee, and tea–and then the first panel (housing/community health) goes from 9:30-10:30; second panel (immigration reform) from 10:45-11:45; third panel (prison reform) from 12-1; lunch from 1-2; working groups 2:15-3:15; closing remarks 3:15-3:30; reception with snacks and refreshments provided from 3:30-5:00.
